Even if you are not into buying from America there is a huge following of American cars, wanting to own something different that the average guy on the street.
The buying process is easy and with the arrival of the internet there is no longer the need to ask American retailers to fax though their inventory, just go on the internet or even car auction sites to find what you are looking for. The difficult bit is getting the car back home form a Tax and liability situation through to paperwork and shipping. Just think of the process, first you need to ship the car form its location in the USA to a relevant port, (so be careful which state you buy a car from, make sure it is not to far from a recognised port). If you do not have the right purchase paperwork, to prove the car belongs to you, the car is not going anywhere, so you also need to check and re check what customs need. The next part on your American car import adventure is to arrange a container ship to bring the car to the UK. If you share a container it will be cheaper, but you will have to wait until similar; cargo is going to the same port in the UK.
You then have UK customs to deal with, first the paperwork and then paying the relevant VAT. if you do not have purchase receipts for everything, customs and excise cannot calculated VAT and you may not get your car. You now have to get this unregistered and probably uninsured car from the port to home, when at last you can examine what you have bought is what you think you have bought.
It is now time to get the car on the UK roads, but that is another story. So to summarise, if you want to buy an American Imports, you can save loads, but mess up any of the processes and not only can it cost you time wise, but also money wise, so take you time and do it right and get all the advice you can.
